Admissions and Attendance Committee

I have recently taken over from Jan Rogers as Chair of The Admissions and Attendance Committee.  This committee is formed of a small group of Governors who meet twice a term to discuss the policies associated with admission to the school and attendance there.  They also work to ensure that the policies are implemented fairly.  While I have served as a committee member for a number of years I am not sure I realised previously the additional aspects required as Chair.

Special Educational Needs at Springfield School

It is now October and Springfield School has welcomed its new Year 7 pupils.  When our pupils arrive at Springfield they are given the support they need to help them settle in their new environment.  They are also given tests to help assess their educational abilities and identify any Special Educational Needs.  These tests are a CAT (Cognitive Ability Test) to measure IQ and a reading test to assess reading age.

Parent Governor Vacancies

The four year term of office of five of our parent governors has come to an end.  Andy Harris and Jag Jethwa still have children at Springfield School and are willing to stand again.  The Governing Body hopes they will be reappointed to enable us to continue to benefit from their experience.  However, at least three new parent governors are needed.

All parents of children at the school are eligible to stand for election to the governing body.  If there are more candidates than vacancies then all parents will be given information on the candidates and an election will be held.  The governors play an important role in the development of the school and I hope you will consider joining the board.

Derek Good—Chair of Governors

Could you become a parent governor at Springfield School?

“I don’t have enough time”  In fact the number of meetings you would have to attend is only around three or four per term.

“I don’t know enough”  You don’t have to have any special knowledge.  You just need to be interested in the school and want it to continue to perform well.  Training is available to help you.

“I don’t have the right experience”  Everyone has their own perspective to bring and your experience as a parent of a child at Springfield School will be of benefit.

“I’ll probably find it boring”  You won’t!  You’ll learn about lots of different areas of school life and you will be involved in making important decisions.

Our Governors are ordinary people from a variety of backgrounds united in their desire to do the best for the pupils at Springfield

If you would like to find out more (without necessarily committing yourself), do contact me via the school.

Marion Hallsworth—Clerk to Governing Body

Closing date for expressions of interest:  Wednesday 10th November 2010

Dear Year 10 Parent/Guardian,

We hope that your son or daughter has settled into their new English class and is already enjoying the challenges of studying AQA GCSE. I am writing with important information regarding the methods of assessment the English team will now be required to use.

All Year 10 students are currently studying the Moving Image unit. They have watched a film and will be required to write a response to the film commenting on the achievements within the genre.
