We are delighted to report that we have had even more success for the girls' football team this year! The KS3 team took part in the Portsmouth Cup Final against Castle View Academy. After a difficult start due to Castle View's volume in defence the team decided to change tactics and opted to keep switching play and went for one touch finishes. This paid off quickly with a superb 1v1 goal from Molly Heazleton (7S). The girls had multiple chances in the first half including hitting the post on three occasions but went into half-time 1-0 up. After a quick team talk and formation change the girls went back into the second half with a clear vision and this was proved in a second goal from Molly Heazleton (7S) who took it past three defenders and placed the shot perfectly. Jadeyn Hodge (8L) captained the match and scored our third goal on the edge of the six yard box. We hit the crossbar a few more times after some excellent deliveries on the wing from Millie Veall (8L) and Sophie Jelliff (7E) and eventually Molly Heazleton scored her hat-trick. To finish the match Ava-Grace Mo (7E) scored our fifth goal. The players in defence worked superbly to ensure that we kept a clean sheet and a special mention goes to Hadassah-Ombi Wandia (8D) for her consistent defensive work and preventing Castle View from having any real shots on target. The team were elated with the win and have enjoyed representing Springfield School in the final. Well done!
