When we arrived we got a badge to say that we were from Springfield and then had some time to look around the museum. The best exhibit, in our opinion, was the space display, as it had many models of rockets and satellites.
The first display we looked at was the Energy Hall. It had one of the first weaving and spinning machines invented by Richard Arkwright. Then we moved on to the ‘Making the Modern World’ hall and read up about penicillin; it was discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming.
After our free time, we met up outside the theatre hall to watch a show called ‘It Takes Guts’ where we learnt the food groups and how our food goes through our digestive system; it made us feel a bit sick. Then we had lunch in the café!
Once we had finished our lunch, we met up at the Launchpad. This has lots of interactive activities such as water rockets, bubble wall and making your own alternative energy source.
To complete the day, we had an hour of free time to look around the museum and buy souvenirs from the gift shop. We also saw some machinery from World War 2 and old car engines.
Overall, we thought this day was fun and, at the same time, very educational. The museum is fantastic and we think that this trip should be run every year. Thanks for a great day out!
