School Rebuilding Milestone Reached
A major milestone was reached on 09 July at Springfield School in Portsmouth as the first structural steel column was successfully installed on site. The event marks the start of the next phase of the school’s campus rebuild, funded via the Department for Education’s (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme.
The steel framework will form the robust 'backbone' of the new facility. This high-strength structure supports the upper floors and roof; by eliminating the need for restrictive internal load-bearing walls, the design creates large, bright classrooms and some flexible communal learning spaces.
Once complete, the project will deliver state-of-the-art, more energy-efficient facilities designed to serve generations of local students. Construction will continue in planned phases to ensure the school remains fully operational with minimal disruption.
