Engaging Assemblies

Today, Year 8 students enjoyed an assembly from Andy Dinsdale from QinetiQ, who spoke about his exciting career path as a submarine engineer. Andy started in the Royal Navy and told students where his work had taken him...or at least the places he is allowed to tell us about! He spoke about submarines and the remarkable engineering that makes them work so secretly underwater.  Students were surprised to hear that more people have climbed Everest and been on the moon than have travelled to the deepest part of the ocean.

Andy finished by telling the cohort that maritime is likely to be a sector of growth and that 30,000 apprentices and 14,000 graduate jobs are likely to be needed in his area when they are starting their careers. We are very grateful for him taking the time to inspire Springfield students with ideas for future plans.

This term, all cohorts have had an assembly from Portsmouth's Mental Health Support Team. For younger years, these have focused on wellbeing and combatting low mood, whereas Years 11 and 10 had more help with managing exam stress.
