The Heritage Project

A group of Year 9 girls has been invited by the National Museum of the Royal Navy to take part in the Heritage Project: they will learn about the work of female crafters before creating their own artefact. On Monday, 18 May, the group visited the Historic Dockyard and observed restoration work taking place on both HMS Warrior and HMS Victory. They were able to have a go at caulking (replacing sections of wood on a ship, hammering in rope to make it watertight) and hear about the career paths of those working in the maritime heritage sector. This was a lovely chance for those studying creative subjects such as Art, DT and Textiles to see real-world application of art and crafting skills. We are very grateful to the Dockyard for the opportunity.
